Barcelona Alphabet Portrait
A  to  Z with DALI

A = Ornate street lights on the Passieg de Gracia, a major shopping street in Barcelona.
B = Bronze letters spelling BARCELONA in the Barri Gotic in front of the City Cathedral.
C = Mosaic tiles in the Parc Guell.  A huge city park designed by Anton Gaudi, a famous Catalonian artist and architect.
D = Many apartments in Barcelona along the Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes have balconies that overlook the boulevard.
E = This chair is on the balcony of Angie’s apartment overlooking the Gran Via.
F = The window in the stairwell of Angie’s apartment building.
G = Los Caracoles (snails) Restaurant is famous for its paella.  This is only one of the wooden snails that make up the décor.
H = The home hockey goal!!
I = Are these Ionic columns?  They are found high on the building next to the Barcelona Cathedral in the Barri Gotic (Gothic Quarter).
J = You may not recognize a field hockey stick!!
K = Look carefully at the window in the Sagrada Familia Cathedral designed by Gaudi in the 1920’s.
L = Shadows down the side portico in the Plaça Reial.
M = There are many ornately carved wooden doors to apartment buildings, churches, homes, and museums.
N =  When a public sculpture jumps out at you like this one did you have to start the game!!
O =  These oculos are a sign in front of the optician’s office.
P = Particular architectural detail on an old market building.
Q = Quirky curly-que ornamentation high on a building in a residential neighborhood.
R = Reial Clube de Polo de Barcelona hosted the European Cup Club Field Hockey Championship Tournament in May 2004. The logo is on the field hockey turf.
S = Serpentine sconces on the outside an office building on the Placa de Catalunya.
T =  a fountain/birdbath in a park by a church.
U = silhouette of a street light on Gran Via near the University.
V = There is a park formed behind apartment buildings that face the street around the city block. The apartments have back balconies that overlook the  park.  V = a very small part of the park behind Angie’s apartment building.
W = Looks like wings over the central open air market, La Boqueria. The market opens onto Las Ramblas, the main strolling street for residents and for tourists.
X = Excellent architectural extras on the façade of the building.
Y = decorative brickwork on the side of the neighborhood market building.
Z = Lazy “Z’s” hover over Las Ramblas’ entrance to La Boqueria.

On the Barcelona portrait, the Catalonian artist, Salvador Dali, looks down on an exhibit of his work in a museum.

Looking for details causes one to appreciate the details of nature, art, and architecture that make a place special.
